Saturday 27th May

Had to wake up early this morning because Emma and Amy's school had their Canarian Day Procession. There was much twittering in the camp and clumping about in boots and swishing of skirts. Luckily I had the good sense to make them have a bath last night so that was one less task. Lucy was delighted when we dressed her up as well, although we didn't have much success with the hat and scarf. We even had time for a quick photo opportunity by the pool before we left the building at approximately 09.15 (no mean feat!)
When we arrived there were hoards of little girls all in various coloured long skirts, peasant blouses and scarfs and hats. Some had stripey skirts with pompoms dangling down the side, and red waistcoats which were embroidered with flowers. (I think that these costumes probably didn't come from Hypertrebol!) The boys had black hats like trilbys, with white shirts and black or stripey trousers (like morning suit trousers) and a red sash belt. A few had black britches with fancy red waistcoats from the posh costume shop, and thick woollen gaiters. What amazed me was how happy all the kids seemed to be to take part.
We processed up the main street in Los Socas (at snails pace), and when we reached the top of the hill, we meandered back down again to the plaza at the bottom, with much music and dancing. They had a canarian music band strumming on their teeny tiny guitars and male harmonious singers which I love. Unfortunately the school had organised loads of tables for the different classes where the kids were each supposed to bring some food for a picnic, except Emma and Amy forgot to tell us about this bit. We left about 12.30, but it was a very enjoyable way to spend a Saturday morning.
Cooked a yummy tea which I'm going to name One Pot Pork, in honour of the fact it is cooked in one pot! (a casserole of pork fillet slow cooked in the oven with onions, leeks, apple and carrot together with a bit of salt'n'pepper, bay leaf and garlic with a can of cider chucked in for good measure, served with rosemary potatoes) MMmmmmmm! Watched a bit of TV, and when the lottery was on rang Nats. Naughty girl hadn't put our lottery money on, but luckily (?) we didn't win (as usual!) so no harm done. Ended up glued to Casualty, so forgot about Big Brother again (ARGHHHHHH!)
