Sunday 2nd July

Room with a View!
Had to get up at the crack of dawn. 6.30 is just too early for a Sunday. The drive up to the airport in the North went like a dream (literally for me, as I was very dosy,) because there was virtually no traffic on the roads. This prompted the cry from Hop as to why it couldn't be like this for him everyday. I had to bite my tongue because I wanted to reply 'because it's Sunday, you Noodle!' but wasn't sure if this would get us off on a harmonious holiday footing, as somebody had quite a hangover!
Lucy behaved like a total brat on the flight, despite having her own seat although her mood in the beginning was probably not being enhanced by a rather wet nappy...
First impressions of Lanzarote were that it was quite windy. The Hop tour commentary informed me that there are world surfing championships held here every year, because of this fact. (He knows this sort of stuff as he lived here for a couple of years, 15 years ago). It is very similar in colour to Fuerteventura, which is kind of a stewed peach shade, as opposed to Tenerife where the rocks are more black looking. It is also a lot less populated, flatter, cleaner and quieter than Tenerife. The other thing that strikes me is how uniform the buildings are. Nearly all of them are white with green or brown painted woodwork. Thanks to the Hop commentary I was also informed that this is due to the meddling of someone called Cesar Manrique who has pretty much dictated how the island should look.
We're staying somewhere called Costa Teguise, at the Beatriz Spa and Hotel and having hired a car, we're going to have a drive round the island tomorrow. Went for lunch in Puerto del Carmen in a pub (with real wooden floors!) called The Irish Viking which is somewhere that Hop used to frequent. It is still owned by the same bloke who came in whilst we were eating, so Hop did a bit of catching up before we went back to the hotel to veg round the pool. Lucy had loads of fun splashing about with her armbands on in the pool, and made a friend.
Had a yummy dinner in the buffet, and then went down to Costa Teguise and found a playground for Lucy followed by an early night all round as we were all pooped. This was unfortunately interrupted by a pukie Mookie, who was sick in our bed around midnight. Yuck! kids...who'd 'av 'em?
