Monday 18th september

The weather is horribly muggy here at the moment, and saps all your energy by the afternoon. I took Lucy to nursery as she didn't seem to be too bad, and came home fully intending to do a full Autumn clean, although (and I'll blame it on the weather) this isn't what actually happened. I'm not sure where the time is going at the moment, but I've promised myself that I'll snap out of my lazy mode by the end of the week. I'm still fulfilling the basic criteria of housewifery (i.e. tidying, washing, ironing, cooking and washing up) but not going above and beyond the call of duty.
Lucy's cold had turned into a hacking cough by the time I picked her up, so I went to the chemist once they opened up after siesta and got some medicine which is actually children's Benylin, which has a different name for the Spanish market, but recognisably the same logo. I tried to combine this trip with matriculation at the cultural centre, but was unlucky because there was a big queue of people and I didn't think that it would be fair on Lucy to make her hang about when she was feeling poorly. (Probably not fair on the people either, if the WW2 airraid siren started up.)
Felt suitably horrified that all I could tempt her with for tea were a few crisps, as she threw the cheese on toast with ketchup, which I made for her in the bin, much to Hop's amusement the minute my back was turned. Everything else that was offered was refused, but I suppose at least she ate something and she has had plenty of drinks.
