Monday 15th may
Strange kind of day and seem to have floated through it in a daze. Deposited Lucy at nursery within the permited time span, and went to spanish. It is near the end of the course and there were only 3 students there, including my self. Apparently we get a diploma to say we have attended the course, and can pick this up after 8th June. There is an award ceremony we can take part in, if we like, on the 7th, but I think that I'll give this a wide swerve.
Managed to find out where to buy Lucy her canarian outfit, and duly went to get one before they sold out. I was informed that at this time of year they sell like hot cakes, and you have to get in quick to avoid disappointment. It will look really cute, although I'm not sure how much success I'll have with the little straw hat and headscarf. It made me think as an English girl, do we have a costume? I know Welsh girls get black skirts and funny black hats with a shawls, Scottish men get kilts and sporens, and the irish have their dancing girls with stiff skirts and legs. Do Morris dancers count, I wonder?
Later on had an overwhelming urge to watch Captain Correlli's mandolin. It must be de Bernieres week in this house. Mum gave me the book to read just after I had Lucy, but I had never seen the film before. After I gave Lucy her tea, we went for a walk up to the big park for a play. I think that I might make a habit of going later at this time as it isn't so hot. The town is completely different aswell, as all the shops are open and there are lots of people about. Busy and quite noisy. Anyway, after the park we walked on up the hill, and joined the big video club in the centre, and rented La Mandolina de Capatain Corelli. I bought Lucy some Maltesers while we browsed, and then we trundled home, Lucy with hampster cheeks. (At least she crammed them all in her mouth, instead of holding them in her hands, which makes a nasty mess)
Stuck the dvd on after the bedtime man had called, and throughly enjoyed it. It's not as good as the book, but it still managed to make me cry even though Captain Correlli came back about 30 years to early. Beautiful landscapes though, and captivating music. Exactly what I wanted !!
