friday 28th april

My sisters birthday today. When I rang she was in a curry house in Leeds with our brother and her bloke. Wish I was there too. I'm glad that her cards arrived a day early before she left London.(Pretty remarkable when you consider me and Lucy posted them only on Monday. ) The post going home is much more reliable than when people send stuff out. Usually it doesn't arrive, so I think that people have just about given up trying to send us stuff.
Got me thinking about Kt's birthdays. I can remember one year (probably 1981) when we had had so much snow at this time that we had no electricity for 5 days, and thought we were going to cancel Kt's party. I can remember another of Kt's birthdays when it was held at the community centre because mum had had to invite so many kids because my sis, always a popular gal, had had so many invitations to other kids parties. The pervading memory for this one is not of snow, but of Dad filling up our brand spanking new garden pond with the hose pipe, on one of those spring evenings when you suddenly notice that it isn't getting dark by 5.30pm, and summer may be hopefully on the way. There was another birthday party some years later when an errant man was ejected by an angry sister and friend for being mean and making the birthday girl cry! (But that is another story.)
Had a busy morning this morning. Picked up new lenses from opticians so can see again, made appointment for Lucy at the doctors to check her weight etc, and did the supermarket sweep! All before the mooking hour! (12 noon) Hop is now at football, and I've just put Mookie to bed abit later than normal, so I'm hoping for a real lay in tomorrow morning, not a lie in as the girls are staying tomorrow night instead. She was so cute this evening and was trying to sing me twinkle twinkle little star. Made my heart melt to see her angelic little expression.
I'm still cringing/wingeing about wednesday night, and the worst thing is have (hopefully) left my shoe (broken, nothing to do with being drunk at the strap pinged off as I sat down at the table before the wine) in the back of Alex's car when he gave us a lift back. If it isn't there then it is lost, and has become one of those puzzling items found at the side of a road. You know the sort of things I mean, like single socks or a packed lunch where you wonder how on earth did somebody lose/get home without that? (I have found both of these things in roads, which may explain where socks go when they separate in the wash.) Felt better after talking to Kt about the wednesday incident as she had a similar experience a few weeks back.

Had a somewhat shameful evening out for Lisa's birthday during which I managed to fall out of a cab into the gutter, and fall off the toilet into the bath. We're a right classy pair... love the photos of you and Lucy!
